Ladies and gentlemen, we have our first non- holiday song to spend 20 weeks on top, well, non-consecutively. "Old Town Road" still holds the record for spending the most consecutive weeks on top 7 years ago with a record of 19.
SOMEBODY STOP CHOOSIN' TEXAS BECAUSE IT'S SUCH A STUPID SONG WITH ALMOST 5 MONTHS AT NUMBER 1 I GIVE UP. ITS RIGGED. ITS SO RIGGED. THIS HAS TO BE A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT.
I wish we got at least one Dolly Parton classic in the Top 10 in tribute to her remarkable career. I’d certainly have taken ‘Jolene’ or ‘9 To 5’ over any song that’s here. Not only was she an iconic country singer, but she was a fantastic human being as well. May she rest in peace.
Man, I miss when boring Top 10s were a rarity instead of being expected. Look, I like ‘Dracula’ and both Olivia Dean singles, but when we’re heading into September with four songs that debuted on the Hot 100 last year and one of them is climbing, you know we have a problem.
Even with ‘Boston’ getting an album boost, it’s still estimated to be around 85 points behind ‘Choosin’ Texas’. At this point, it’s not even a question of whether Ella can break Mariah’s record, but whether Mariah can take it back during the holidays.
In other news, Dolly's original recording of "I Will Always Love You" from the 70s charts at #27 this week, amidst a seemingly small week of new songs.
