7:02 K-Pop tours. Columbus, Ohio need some K-Pop tours. Blackpink, Lesserafim, Aespa, I-DLE & others need to visit this city when they tour. OSU stadium, Nationwide arena &other places.
I'm 42 and just love kpop. And I think there is a lot of prejudice against kpop due to the language and a culture different from the western one. At he same time, people don't criticize those aged 30 or older for liking traditional pop, but there is a huge criticism when it comes to kpop and the age of fans.
How come this guy only mentions BTS or Black Pink never accomplishing the feat of having 4 songs from the same track on top 200, neither has most Western Pop artists.
I am 47 years old and I love BTS, EXO, Zerobaseone, Stray Kids, Monsta X, Astro, TXT, Seventeen, BTOB, BigBang, Super Junior, TVXQ, SHinee, BlackPink, Twice, Rain, and Seven.
63 yo here loving BTS!!! I'm part of the Silver Army who are active and quite informed. Love it all! This ks for highlighting such incredible Korean artists!!
BTS were already selling out stadiums in the West (US, UK Wembley etc.) back in 2018/2019. And were the first KPOP group to make it mainstream in the US, and literally changed the landscape of KPOP and uptake of Korean Culture in the US. BTS PAVED THE WAY! 💜
Just because K-pop wasn't popular in the United States before BTS doesn't mean it wasn't already globally popular… Like, the world doesn't revolve around the US 😅😅 K-pop achieved global popularity during the 2nd generation, not only in Asia but also in Latin America and Europe. The Korean wave literally emerged thanks to the global popularity that K-pop and K-dramas gained during that time. But it's true that BTS was the first K-pop group to gain such popularity in the US and it was them that sparked Americans' interest in K-pop and Korean culture in general.
KPDH is an American created project and only draws inspiration from what started in Korea. So it’s easier to sell in the U. S. and the overseas. Actual Korean groups still have challenges penetrating the American entertainment industry, not to mention airplays on radio despite support from their fans.
The problem is grouping BTS in w Kpop. The Army is much more diverse in age, sex, background… almost ev demo. Including them or failing to parse them out in cases skews statistics and belies how they were and still are shunned by the dominant labels in S.Kor. You'd expect music "journalists" to have a grasp on this especially if u claim some Kpop interests.
Honestly the biggest group no one has heard of right now is XG. They completely destroyed Couchella as what a performance. People were litterly chanting XG at the end of their 2 shows.
Lisa was also great but still she gets shade. Despite being the main reason Blackpink had any success at all. Rose is by far the most talented and hope her success continues as she earned it. As far as K-Pop demon Hunters go here.
I am just happy Ejae is finally getting her long overdue recognition. That girl is a superstar and deserves whatever success awaits her now, she has earned it!!
Something I like about Kpop is that the Kpop artists genuinely show their appreciation toward thier fans in a way that the Western pop artists have never done before.
This video is the perfect gateway video for new or curious fans.
Something billboard should cover are the comebacks. They tend to be weeks long promotions – Korean broadcasts (SBS,KBS) and even Japanese performances, interviews, lots of content, dance challenges. Every comeback/era is probably the best part of being in a fandom. The cycle can feel manufactured at times, but there is no question the hype is often real.
tbh is Blackpink really shaping anything anymore? Last song I remember by them is How You Like That. They aren't really popular anymore because they release music way too rarely, which is turning them irrelevant.
Honest Opinion.. I'm not a fan of anyone, so so I'll speak objectively.. but I think BTS truly led the way. They were the first Kpop group to reach number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.. And there were more popular songs after that..Despite taking a brief hiatus due to military service, BTS is truly the king of Kpop.. Even in the country where I live, when people talk about Kpop, BTS is the most mentioned.
So Billboard, are you filtering the KPDH streams too? What about all their "bot" streams? (I like the film and the soundtrack, but I like BTS songs too…but for them my streams are bot streams to be filtered.) And now that you have the data about K-pop, will you STOP helping the overall US music industry to delegitimize them and supporting barriers to entry? Is that glass ceiling for K-pop now permanently broken, or does it only work for movies/soundtracks released by US companies and fictional characters?
Hopefully your survey WILL help to support the idea of expanding tour stops beyond NYC/LA/CHI. Jin of BTS alone just sold out Tampa for two arena dates last weekend.
It grates me how media outlets use BTS for clickbait (because they know they'll get the clicks) then mention other artists, not bothering to mention BTS or their achievements.
The creators and cast of Kpop Demon Hunters have mentioned BTS numerous times as inspiration for the movie, yet this interview has completely ignored that.
JHope had the highest grossing solo tour Jin had sold out concerts in Tampa and Anaheim BTS Permission To Dance Live Album surpassed Taylor Swift and Beyonce with the highest debut of a live album BTS Permission To Dance Live Album debuts at #1 on the Billboard World Albums Chart BTS Permission To Dance Live Album is the 1st live album by an Asian Act to debut in the Billboard 200 Top 10

Netflix needs to sell actual Huntr/x and Saja Boys light sticks. They would probably not be able to keep stock for months of course.
